辩证法与历史的终结(披头四)

辩证法总是梦想着下一个时代。黑格尔的“主奴辩证法”终于可以在商品社会完成它的喜剧式综合:最初两个个体相遇时,彼此出于最根本的欲望——欲望他人的欲望,欲望得到承认的欲望——而否定对方,企图以此将对方的欲望置于自身的欲望控制之中。奴隶出于“保命”这一动物性的考虑而事实上放弃了人性的高贵,主人从这一“次人”这里得到的承认并不是他最初欲望的来自平等者的承认,从此不劳而获的主人脱离了与劳作、与自然的联系,变成了不得不依靠奴隶之劳作的自然的奴隶——主人就此逐渐丧失了人性的高贵。

 

如今历史终结了:成为自身奴隶的主人和成为自身主人的奴隶在商品社会达到和解,一切劳作都不再服务于任何目的,劳作和休闲的区分将不再存在,人的劳作将不再具有历史性和政治性。劳作的产物将在同一个水平面上没有深度地自由传递和流动——这就是商品文化的去政治化的寓言。

Dialectics and the Ending of History (The Beatles)

 

Dialectic is always dreaming of the next era. Hegel’s “master-slave dialectics” has finally finished its comedic synthesis in the commercial society. When two individuals initially encounter, they try to deny each other out of the most fundamental desire: the desire for others and the desire of itself being recognized. And they also attempt to thusly put each other’s desire under the control of their own desire. In consideration of the “survival” instinct of animosity, slave de facto gives up the dignity of humanity. And the recognition for master by the “inferior human” is not what he initially desired to get from an equal counterpart. From then on, the non-working master breaks away from his connections with laboring work and natures, and becomes the slave of nature who has to depend on the real slave’s labor. The master has gradually lost the dignity of humanity from then on. 

 

And now this history has been ended. The master who has become his own slave and the slave who has become his own master get reconciliation in the commercial society. All labors are no longer serving any purpose, and the distinction between labor and leisure will no longer exist. There will be no longer historical and political meanings for people’s labor. The products of labor will freely transmit and flow in a lateral level, without any depth, which is the allegory of commercial culture’s de-politicization.
